Taiwan’s election day has been designated as a day off under the Labor Standards Act to protect workers’ voting rights. Six factories of Advanced International Multitech Co., Ltd, the parent company of Launch Technologies Co., have been fined NT$680,000 for violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act. This comes after a tragic fire at a Launch Technologies factory in Pingtung resulted in over a hundred casualties.

More than 70 factory workers at Oceanic Beverages Co. Inc., the popular beverage Apple Sidra manufacturer, have lodged complaints against the company, claiming that their May salaries have not been paid. The employees, based at the Taoyuan factory, reported the non-payment to the Taoyuan City Government, prompting an investigation by the Taoyuan City Labor Inspection Division.
